Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic

Topshelfers's Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic Review Xbox, 100+ hours played

I don't have many 10 out of 10 games. I have a handful that I would put in the range of 9-9.9 but very few would I put at a true 10. This is one of those games. This game revolutionized the meaning of your actions impact the game. Not only are there two very unique and different endings, there are tons of different interactions. You can go the whole game without even unlocking all of the playable characters. As a matter of a fact, you can kill characters you have the ability to unlock and play as. Each "main" character's back story is flushed out in a big way. And how you interact with them will allow for more story or insight. However, depending on which side of the force you venture in, might leave some of your characters hesitant or even openly outing you. *fuck you Carth* The worlds you venture on feel like Star Wars. You see a wide variety of aliens and creatures while seeing both the dirty crime syndicates to the early days of the Jedi.

You awake on a ship with amnesia and your venture begins with landing on a galactic controlled world. You're told of a Jedi that you are on the rescue for. She holds the future in her hands and it is time to follow. From this point on, you can decide to be a ruthless villain or a loving hero. Little did I know the that this part of the story is a very tine small portion of the story. When i played through this for the first time many years ago, I thought that the story was going to end on this planet. It was my first introduction into what I would call an "Epic" game. Meaning, we aren't done in a mere 20 hours. Saving the captured Jedi is a small portion of what turns into world traveling, Jedi training, and deciding whether or not you are a full blown Sith willing to take over the world or a Jedi ready to vanquish those apposing law and order.

The payoff alone for your main character is one of the best Star Wars lore stores I have seen. And not only that, it has been at the cry of fans for live action since they begun revisiting that side of Star Wars. Even though the game has been out since 2003, it doesn't feel bad to play. A lot of games from the early 2000s are almost too dated to go back and play. Whether that is graphically or controlling. This game feels great on both. The graphics felt like their were 10 years ahead of the game when it came out. And it still looks good. No it doesn't look like a new triple A game, but It is fine. Plus if you play games just for graphics, I can show you the door.

I very very very rarely play games more then once through. I am a person who can't find enjoyment in predictability in games. This game is one of the exceptions. I have done 3 full play throughs and have thought about revisiting it just to enjoy how amazing it truly is. The kicker to all of this. You don't even need to like Star Wars to enjoy this game. You ever heard of the small series Mass Effect...same company and same type of layout/playstyle. For you Star Wars fans, you will get a kick of the early days and lore.

Oh and one play through alone will be at least 40-70 hours. I think you can find the game for like 10 bucks if not cheaper. I would easily pay 60 dollars for the game now and you will easily get your money's worth. If you are really pinching pennies, wait for a sale and I am sure it will be a couple bucks.

10/10
