Assassin's Creed Origins: The Curse of the Pharaohs

blustrkr's Assassin's Creed Origins: The Curse of the Pharaohs Review Xbox One

I couldn't believe how much content this expansion added! It adds the area of Thebes to the game, and with it the Valley of Kings. In the Valley you'll find the ancient tombs of some of Egypt's most famous Pharaohs, such as Akhenaten, Tutankhamun, Ramesses the Great, and the Queen Nefertiti.

Basically, said great Pharaohs have been pissed off by a bunch of tomb robbers who have stolen many ancient artifacts from their tombs. Because of this, the Pharaohs have risen from the dead and are killing the people of Thebes to exact revenge. You must find and return the artifacts and kill each Pharaoh's cursed spirit so that they may rest in the Afterlife. Each Pharaoh's fighting style is different which adds a pleasant amount of variety to each boss battle. I will say though, using a bow to charge your Overpower ability then using your Overpower, then repeating this process over and over will typically win you your battles. The Favor of Osiris ability helps a lot here to replenish your arrows as you fight.

I really enjoyed all of the detail (that Ubisoft always has in their games) that was put into this Ancient Egypt story. It fits in with the rest of Origins but rather than taking a more realistic approach like the base game and The Hidden Ones DLC, it goes for a more surreal/mythological vibe which definitely freshens up the game a lot! It's fun to explore Egyptian mythology from this perspective. It's also fun to fight the new Curse of Pharaohs, as they are usually quite punishing to defeat. Doing so will yield Shards of a Star (meteorite) which will allow you to craft your weapons and armor to an even higher level.

With each tomb you find, you will find an access point to the Afterlife. Each of these Afterlifes add a whole new playable area on the map. Luckily, you can fast travel between them quickly. I was already pleased with the addition of Thebes, but these Afterlife areas really add a lot more stuff to get through. Some would argue that this game is too long, especially with these expansions, but I see it as incredible value! It really took me quite a long time to get to this expansion, let alone complete it!

If you enjoy Assassin's Creed gameplay, and especially if you already own Origins and enjoy it, I would definitely recommend purchasing this expansion! I managed to hit the level cap of 55 and basically complete everything without getting tired of it!
