This is a familiar song and dance with older games, but nevertheless always a sad reminder of what once was. Just last year on April 28th of 2023 EA removed Battlefield: Bad Company, Battlefield: Bad Company 2, and Battlefield 1943 from all digital storefronts, preventing any further purchases.
Later that same year on December 8th, EA finally pulled the plug and shut down the servers for good, kicking all remaining players offline. Obviously the player population had been dipping over the years, especially with newer titles like Battlefield 4, Hardline, 1, V, and 2042 available to play. This doesn't stop it from being a sad day for us here at byte1ife! So many memories have been made playing this whole series - not to mention all the other series out there.
The full list of EA game servers shut down last year include:
- Battlefield: Bad Company
- Battlefield: Bad Company 2
- Battlefield 1943
- Crysis 3
- Dante’s Inferno
- Dead Space 2
- Mirror’s Edge Catalyst
One of the launch maps from Battlefield 3, Grand Bazaar.
While the pain is still fresh, EA's grim reaper is soon to strike again. Next on its 2024 edition list are yet more entries in the series dear to our hearts: Battlefield 3, Battlefield 4, and Battlefield Hardline.
All three will see their servers shutting down on Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 in less than a month from now on November 7th, 2024.
If you only own these games on Xbox 360 or PlayStation 3 (or if you're playing the 360 or PS3 versions through backwards compatibility on newer consoles), these next couple weeks are your last chance to play online and get achievements/trophies. Afterwards, it won't be possible to earn them anymore. If you own the games on PC, you're still good to go for the moment. If you have the Xbox One or PlayStation 4 versions of Battlefield 4 or Hardline, you're still good to go. You might see another post like this from us in about a year's time though!
Everyone remembers the Siege of Shanghai map in Battlefield 4.
Many of us were supporting the above games and their servers in their final minutes last year, and we will be doing it again this year. Keep an eye out for Sessions we've created on the homepage. They'll show up right near the top of the page. We will be adding more throughout the next week or two. Feel free to join us! You can always create an account for free.
If you made it this far, thanks a lot for reading. This is our first official gaming news post on the site! We'll probably be doing some more of these news posts from here on out. Some shorter, some longer. Make sure to follow us on our socials and create an account here on our site to stay updated!
