Yeah the Infinite Forest was quite a let down. It definitely didn't feel quite so infinite! There was so much they could have done with it and it felt underwhelming and half baked. The Heroic Strikes and Nightfall Strikes on Mercury were kinda cool in the Simulant Past and Future, but they did get repetitive after a while.
I will say that I do enjoy Warmind quite a bit more. The addition of Escalation Protocol is very nice because it adds more persistent universe public event kinda stuff, which I think is one of the strengths of Destiny. It was nice to see something else take advantage of that. I love just running into random players and teaming up spontaneously to take down a harder enemy. Escalation Protocol has you deal with several waves, with pretty decent loot drops every few waves. It's pretty damn tough to make it all the way to the end (I haven't yet) and it's recommended that your Power is ~380 (aka nearly maxed out).
I liked the new single player missions in Warmind more too, but that could just be personal preference. They did a really good job crafting Mars though, just wish it was a bit bigger area to play around in (although it seems bigger than Mercury to me).
The real kicker is gonna be when Forsaken comes out this Fall. Mitchinator1, if you're still on the fence I'd wait til September for Forsaken. It should do for Destiny 2 what the Taken King did for Destiny 1, which is make it better in just about every way. Taken King really turned Destiny 1 up to 11 in my opinion.
