blustrkr's Battlefield 3 Review Xbox 360, 100+ hours played

This game started out a little rough at release (like a lot of DICE games), but I thoroughly enjoyed it. I had a few friends who played a lot as well (several of which are on this very site) which definitely increased the fun factor. It felt like an upgraded and further refined version of Bad Company 2. This is a good thing, as BC2 was already a great FPS.

Battlefield 3's campaign is much more action oriented, like this scene on a train

The graphics were great for the Xbox 360 when they came out, but they really shine (even to this day, in my opinion) on PC with the settings turned up. It's a pretty big difference between console and PC in this case. I appreciated the addition of being able to lay back down, and some of the animations associated with character movement were further refined.

Destruction was amped up a notch from the already awesome Bad Company series

As always, DICE did a great job with the audio. The explosions, vehicle noise, and gunfire make it seem like you are in an authentic Battlefield experience.

There are a wide assortment of very large maps to play on

Over time the game was updated to fix it up and of course add the expansions. Once all of those were out, there were quite a few maps to play and a decent selection of weaponry. Some of the guns had to be unlocked by doing co-op missions, and some were unlocked by completing Assignments in multiplayer. I really liked how you had to participate in different areas of the game to unlock everything, it definitely added to the replay value.

I would highly recommend getting this game if you like first person shooters at all. The servers are still online (can personally verify on Xbox Series X/PC) as of the time of writing. There are several servers that are still full all the time. Great to see! It can usually be picked up on sale for pretty cheap. I have so many memories playing this game, and still make new ones to this day!

9/10
