blustrkr's Retrograde Arena Review Nintendo Switch, 2-5 hours played

This was a very pleasant (free) surprise! This is a retro arcade styled twin stick shooter. It's heavily based on physics though; rather than killing your opponents by shooting them, you must use the force of your shots to push your enemies into certain "kill barriers." The location of said barriers varies by map. There are several powerups spread throughout the maps that temporarily change/upgrade your weapon as well.

Each map has a different layout of red, yellow, and blue squares. You want to avoid the red ones!

It's a lot of fun and can be quite adrenaline filled. I was surprised how "into it" I was getting when playing with others online. Speaking of which, there are no dedicated servers. You simply host a lobby and people join it, or you can join someone else's.

There is not a single player mode of any sort, aside from a Tutorial mode. The only other options are to Host or Join Game. There is one other option for Drone Workshop, which is where you can modify the look of the Drone you control as you play. You can unlock some new cosmetics by completing various in-game achievements, which can also be viewed in a list.

The retro styled graphics look great!

You can purchase additional packs that look like they include some new game modes, new maps, and new skins for your ship.

I would recommend this game for killing a few minutes here or there. It doesn't take long to load up and get into a lobby. The retro styled graphics are a treat to look at and it's a blast to play this with other people online. And of course, it is free!
