Destiny: The Taken King

blustrkr's Destiny: The Taken King Review Xbox One

Widely credited for "saving" the original Destiny, Taken King adds quite a lot of new stuff to do! It revolves around Oryx, who is back for revenge after the death of his son Crota in the Dark Below expansion.

As far as numbers and stuff go this expansion adds a new campaign, 3 new multiplayer Strikes, 7 new Crucible maps, the new King's Fall raid, and a few new Crucible game types.

The new playable area for this expansion is the Dreadnaught, which is Oryx's ship. It's pretty huge. Still to this date it dwarfs the size of all other Destiny DLCs except for the Forsaken expansion. The developers said that the focus was to create a large space with tons of secret spaces/loot/etc. Basically, you will need to take a second look everywhere you go.

A new public activity was introduced with this expansion: Court of Oryx. I love stuff like this because it shows off one of Destiny's supposed cool features: the persistent game world. It wasn't perfect, but it was the start to more refined activities that came later in Destiny 2 such as Escalation Protocol and the Well of Wishes.

This expansion introduces a new type of enemy called the Taken. They are essentially an army of corrupted Hive, Cabal, and Vex that are (as of the time of this expansion) under the control of Oryx. They have interesting behavior...their animations and movement have a lot of "jitter." Always love new enemy types because it keeps the game fresh.

If you like Destiny a lot but just really want more content, then the skies have smiled upon you! Before this came out, I was in love with Destiny but frustrated with the lack of things to do. This expansion put all of that to rest.
