Destiny 2 - Expansion I: Curse of Osiris

blustrkr's Destiny 2 - Expansion I: Curse of Osiris Review Xbox One

Actually ended up burning through the story missions within about a day and a half of playing this. It's about what I expected; Destiny 1's first two expansions weren't exactly game changers but did add plenty of content. This one is about the same.

Just as I was with the base game, I am in love with this expansion's art and visuals. The lighting on Mercury is so pleasant to look at and I love how they took the planet in a different direction. It definitely looks very hot with the Sun on the horizon. This expansion added the Infinite Forest and it is also stunningly beautiful.

Speaking of the Infinite Forest, it is the main (and pre-launch, much hyped) focus of this expansion. Basically, after completing some tasks you enter through a Vex Gate and you're in. Every time you go in your path will be different. You must open a series of gates and a new chunk of path will assemble and become visible, at which point you'll continue. It was said to be truly infinite which obviously had a ton of players like myself excited, but what actually resulted was not at all infinite. It's kind of tedious and boring to get through after a while. Eventually this path leads you to a Vex simulated past or future of Mercury. The Simulant Past consists of a beautiful Mercury just terraformed by the Traveler's light. The colors here are really cool to look at. The Simulant Future shows a Mercury with our Sun completely burnt out and cooled off. There are no signs of life or energy at all. It's really cool! I just feel like the only part of this "feature" that I really enjoyed was the art.

It also adds a Raid Lair, which is a different version of the Leviathan raid. I haven't yet tried it, but will update this when I do.

The expansion adds a ton of Osiris themed gear. We've been hearing about the famous Guardian Osiris since the first Destiny, but never got to see him until now. Most of the activities of course revolve around him. The other story focus of Curse of Osiris is Ikora, who was once a student of Osiris.

Overall, I think this expansion didn't do a whole lot for the game. I think it lies more in line with the likes of The Dark Below and House of Wolves from the first Destiny in that they do not necessarily redefine Destiny, but rather iterate on it. I think they missed a huge opportunity with the Infinite Forest, so that's definitely a disappointment for me. I completed the whole thing so quickly, too. I am excited to see what events they come out with to keep players interested...
