First off, a racing game is a key game type to a perfect game library. So when one thinks of racing games they think Need For Speed. A classic game series which has always been a favorite for many. I own the 2015 title "Need For Speed" and i loved it. Need for speed did something new this year, instead of the classic real people cut scenes in NFS they switched to animation. While they did a good job with the characters, i still think those real cut scenes are what make Need For Speed the game it is. Payback offers different game play then any other NFS title before it, and not great game play in my eyes. First Of the biggest thing that brings NFS down a peg is the car situation, in prior NFS games you had a car and you decked it out to be fast for any type of race. Well NFS Payback makes the player have 1 vehicle for every race type. So you have a car for race, drag, drift, runner and off road. There is a dealership for every type, they all sell the same cars but if i want to but say a 69 charger for race i have to buy it at the race dealership. While it isn't that complicated it makes no sense, it's also so annoying to have to change cars for each race type. Why the three main characters couldn't have had a car each idk, but it would have made things easier. I also to put my opinion out there while the GTA V style of playing across three characters is cool, i would much rather play as a up and coming racer or whatever and have me and my car and the roads ahead. Multiplayer isn't any better btw, remember 2015 NFS where everybody was in a map together? Well in this that isn't even an option, as in you can't roam the map with friends only races. Third which may just be me is the shit car customization. The actually body work customization is the exact same from 2015, but the part system is so basic it's insulting. In 2015 you could change every part even small things like Tie Rods, and your parts level was based from basic to performance parts, which was so cool to me. Instead now you get 5 different parts and no not actual parts just stickers/cards. You get a card after a race that will say be a level 6 engine block and that is how you do parts, it's so stupid. While NFS Payback is such a beautiful game and has a decent story i can't recommend it to anyone. If you want a racing game go for something else this year EA really disappointed us and unless they fix this crap NFS won't be successful for much longer.
